Dodge A518 to Ford NP205

Postby ryans71 » Sun Nov 23, 2014 6:18 pm

Anyone found a way to install a married Ford NP205 onto a 1st or 2nd Gen auto? I'm looking at a '93 Cummins 4x4 Auto to put in my '78 Ford Crewcab 4x4 and want to retain the married Ford NP205 so I can still use my PTO winch that is driven off the Tcase.

Thanks.

The A518 has a 23 spline output shaft. You need to find out how many spline the Ford version of the NP205 input shaft has. If it's not 23 spline, I'm sure the input shaft can be changed to the Dodge 23 spline version. Machine work to the front 'bowl' adapter and or the case of the t-case may be necessary depending on shaft or bearing diameter.

Look at my super crew build thread on this topic area. I did a ford 205 to nv4500. Same concept. If I were you , I would put a dodge 29 spline input in a ford case and buy a 23-29 spline couple and have someone machine the aluminum adapter like I did. If you want to make the adapter, buy a 5" tall, 8" diameter cylinder of solid billet 6061 T6 aluminum which is around $90 on ebay. Take it to a friend with a lathe and have him bore the inside and make the steps to center the adapter between trans and case...

Or, just buy this: http://www.advanceadapters.com/products ... sfer-case/

A 241 dld or dhd from a automatic 2nd gen will bolt up and give you drivers side drop, better low range and not weigh as much. Speedo cable will be a issue though.

Dld SYE are available but if you get a dhd you'll have to call Tom woods drive shafts and they will make you one, you'll have to send in the Main shaft though for modifications. Everybody else says they don't have anything.

I know this thread is old but wanted to add the info for when people search.

Have a good one y'all
