popular alternator upgrades ?

Postby jethro » Sat Jan 30, 2016 11:44 pm

I am about to try hooking up my dodge alternator with an external dodge regulator and see if the darned thing works.
If the alt happens to be bad- or just doesn't make enough current to break even (charging) - what is a popular
and available higher current alternator that is drop-in ?
have read about one called - delco remy 24SI with hinge mount- supposed to come in 160, 180 and 200 amp versions.....
Are there other popular ones being used ?

The article referenced above is about the best option in my opinion. After dealing with multiple charging issues with mine (Mopar voltage regulator related) I decided that when this one goes out I am going to with a similar setup however I am going to use a Delco remy 21SI alternator. I talked with a local automotive electric shop and they suggested the 21SI. A decent automotive electric house can get you the 21SI with the correct pulley so you don't have to modify one like in the write up. The highest amperage I have seen the 21SI in is 240 so a lot higher than the leece neville I believe.
