'91 D-250 Resto Thread

Postby meby » Tue Feb 21, 2017 1:22 pm

I've just got my '91 running again. It was parked for two years for a couple reasons one of which is the cab floor and rocker are in terrible shape. I have a pristine cab that's going in for paint next week that will go on the truck.

Can I use the cab mount bushings for the 85' and older trucks? Seems like read they'll fit , but can't find the thread discussing them.

IIRC they are the same. I put Polys on mine, and hate them, but some of the NOS ones are nonexistent.

Every bit of vibration comes right thru them. For a long time I thought I had a bad u-joint, but I'm getting of the opinion that it's just the mounts transmitting vibrations from the engine or tires or something.

Ohhhhh, yes, I agree with that! I get at least 1 and as much as 3 posts from Pb a day. I've marked them as spam, and keep dumping them in that folder and they keep coming. They did some kind of an update a while back, and since then it's awful.

Making progress on the truck though!

Got the cab off, the frame cleaned and most of my replacement parts like door and window seals and carpet etc ordered.

Pete...I think a couple years ago you told me that some later model stereos would fit our trucks. Do you happen to remember which ones fit?

Everything up to '01 Bud! I have AM/FM/ Cassette/ CDs in both trucks. $20 or $25 from the junkyard. ;)

Is that heavy enough for a cab mount? It's 3/8" thick. Or should I weld some bracing across the ends.

Mat that's more than thick enough. If your mounts are rusted out where the rubber sets. You can weld a large washer in also.
This in one of my front mounts I repaired.

This is a rear mount with flat washer in it.

No problem Matt!
I repaired 3 or 4 of mine like Philip did, they came out good. No problems yet!
