new project

Postby lectro_static » Sun Dec 05, 2010 5:38 pm

Bought a 1985 chvey crew cab, $300 no motor/tranny or wiring interior is out but has it all and best of all NO RUST/ROT. Big project but worthwhile I think, some bigger problems I can see will be hydraulics for the clutch and 2wd to 4wd swap.

Truck is at my shop now, pretty torn down and will get painted as I go but here are a few more pictures. I do have a couple questions, on a 93 dodge the fuel kill is keyed hot, so I could just use the "coil wire" from the new harness? What does the KSB do? It is not hooked up on my truck now but would like to be able to hook it up if needed.

Sorry for the crappy pictures they are cell phone pics.

If I can get it finished it will be, 2.3 turbo ford motor, 35" rear tires and 31" front about 20" of travel on all 4. Might sell it to fund this crew and build a manx instead havent made my mind up about that yet

Might try to find a 86 or 87 chevy in a junk yard. If it was a standard, it had a hydro clutch. I've seen a couple of 4X4 trucks around here with them.

Yup Im on the hunt for the pedal set and hydros but I think the bore size may be to small for the getrag slave, need to look into that. I am thinking of yanking the slave off my dodge and using it just adapt it over to the chevy hole.

To answer your questions and not get side tracked by the beetle...... Yes, you can use any keyed hot for the fuel shut off solenoid. And the KSB is the cold start advance. The sensor should be on the rear of the intake. Key on, cold temp activates the switch, and it advances the timing 7* and bumps case pressure so it starts better and smokes less when cold. You can put it on a switch, but then there is a good chance of popping the seals in the pump if you forget to shut it off. Don't ask how I know.

If I had money available I'd get into a lot more trouble than I do. It's not fun being broke, but it's safe! ;)
