Well, this weekend me and my friend installed a 175hp p-pump on his 24v cummins that we put in his superduty. We tried and tried to make it run with the factory ecm but we never had any luck.
After doing a lot of research we decided to pull the cam to swap the housings and man it worked great! 1/2'' wooden dowel with a 1''cross cut with a band saw into the the end held the lifters so tight you had to use 2 hands to remove them. Man that cam is heavy! I think I will have to make a handle if I ever to do it again.
I have never timed a p-pump engine before, to make matters worse
the pumps locking pin was broken off! So we centered it in the window and called it good. installed it on the truck. The engine was at TDC and I figured the pump was close to 12.5* I have read that they run a little better with some timing so we counted 36 teeth on the crankshaft the so 10* per tooth. I backed the engine up 5* and torqued the pump gear I hope I am somewhere in the 16-19 on timing, we will see.
If not I am sure you on here will enlighten me so I can redo it.
Thanks
