Another '86 F250....................

Postby bmoeller » Sun Dec 02, 2012 12:18 pm

Boss' step-son traded a pit bike for a '86 F250 yesterday. Has a 6.9L, EAOD(?) auto in it (NOT a C6) and 4wd. Surprised how quiet the thing is with a stack and straight piped. Though, what had been done, is the bottom of the stack was capped and the exhaust comes into it from the side. Actually sounds pretty decent. Has some sort of shift kit in the trans and shifts plenty hard. Almost too much. IP has been tweaked a bit. A LOT stronger than the one I had. Not a total pooch at all (at least empty ;) ).

But, he NEEDS a cab for it. Rockers, cab corners and lower A pillar is pretty much gone. Have to lift up on the door to close it. Hinges are good, but the A pillar moves! Holes in the floor too. Needs a steering column too. It is junk. VERY loose!!

If memory serves me correctly, the AOD is FoMoCo 1st attempt at an OD auto trans for trucks. Predecessor to the E4OD, it is not much of a trans. Nothing like the C6.

Yep, it was. My folks had one behind a 300 I-6, in a E150 Econoline. Though, the one in this truck actually feels a lot more solid. The one in the van was really mushy.

I've never seen an aod Trans behind a diesel, all I've built is e40ds behind them.

An AOD Trans is mechanical, only thing electric about it was a neutral safety/reverse light switch. Quick way to tell what it is,look and see if theres a huge A plug on top of the pass side of the trans

My brother drives a black car and even still he gets mad when I leave him a cloud to drive through. On the flip side of the coin, I've heard my dad enjoys the smoke enduced powa when he drives my truck  Maybe that's why I made that valet switch.
