Postby 1992gen1_fan » Thu Aug 15, 2013 7:25 pm

Hello, can turning up a 7.3 idi (1989 model) cause runaway like the VE's in our trucks?

Yes I'm pretty sure it can, rule of them I use is always think they can, I think even the old school vw diesels can run away

Yes they will runaway. More then a 1/4 turn on the pump is useless unless its turbocharged. They just smoke and melt down otherwise.

Ok thanks for the info. Its a friends truck, he was wanting to know if I'd turn it up just a tad. I did tell him he needs a pyro before I even think about messing with it especially being non turbo'd. I figure 1/4 turn would be good enough. Thought I'd make sure 1/4 turn would be safe (no threat of runaway), thanks :D

No problem I used to have a old 6.9, one of my favorite trucks until the rings got bad.
