what is it good for ?

Postby jethro » Sun Jan 11, 2015 1:43 am

There is this BIG Iveco-magirus box truck from about 1984. about a 30 foot box. cab-over. tilting cab.
It has about 40,000 miles. It has a manual trans, and a 5 cylinder water cooled Deutz engine. Starts and runs well.
It sat for years- not being run- and it started on the 2-nd revolution. ran fine !

the sheet metal in the cab is rusted through in the floor and some other spots- (an endemic iveco problem I understand)

So my question is what the engine or engine-trans-running-gear be good for ?
I would think parts wouldn't be easy to get ------

Would the engine be common with a deutz farm tactor ?

Don't you have enough on your plate without taking on another project? Are you sure it's a deutz and not an iveco engine? It would be good to swap into a farm tractor, truck, or anything. If it is a deutz I think you should be able to get parts, they still make them.

I'd use the box for storage and scrap the rest of it. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I probably wouldn't buy it- it belongs to my old boss- kind of a white elephant....
I think his old employees must have gotten talked into buying it somehow

yeah- my truck is plenty of handful for me now.
When I get it close to roadable- I will be starting on building an airplane - so I will have plenty of projects.
I all ready have 3 or 4 other projects beyond those anyway !
