8? 6.9

Postby pulltilbroke » Mon Feb 23, 2009 6:35 pm

Well I found an 8? F$&@ with a 6.9 and it has a bank$ sidewinder setup on it, just wondering what its worth, BTW it has a new tranny and its only got 70000 on the motor. I can pick it up for 500 buck$ and I figure I could resell it to a dilusional furd nut for a little profit

Whadya think

I say go for it. I'm sure you could get more than $500 for it, you might have to wait for the right person though.

A turd colored ex cab 2wd isn't going to bring much. If it was a day cab 4x4 it would be worth a little.

Dont knock the 6.9L.... Someone (Edge, bullydog, something along those lines) took one, bored it out to a 7.3L, added twin turbos, low compression pistons, stuck it into a ranger, and ran a 12.x in the 1/4...

The 6.9s were the best of the Ford diesels- had the mechanical fuel system, were more dependable than the later 7.3s IDIs, and with a turbo kit and some pump tuning, would keep up with the early Powerstrokes. Still nowhere near a Cummins, but the best Ford ever had. In stock form, they were gutless turds, though.

I got a peak of 109 hp out of my '85 on a 2nd gear pull on an eddy-current chassis dyno. Definately needed a turbo; exhaust made a spot on the wall and rendered the garage rather cloudy...:)
