97 gmc suburban 6.5

Postby skilletky » Tue Jun 30, 2009 1:53 pm

my buddy just got a 97 suburban with the turbo 6.5. i brought it home today to turn the pump up a little, but when i popped the hood, i found that it had a different type db2. this one does not use a throttle cable to the the pump from the peddle assy. it uses a tps at the pedel. does anyone know what model pump this is and can it be turned up mechanicly or will it need a scan tool to turn the fuel up. he doesn't want much more power, just a little more get up and go.

Being a 97 it is a DS electronic injection pump. Tell you buddy to mount a PMD cooler and to carry a spare PMD with him at all times. They fail, a lot.

PMD is the pump module driver, (black box n side of pump)

It's one of those pumps you shouldn't mess with, very delicate.

I have seen kits where you can convert the electronic to the more reliable mechanical style pump. Not sure where to find one, but when we get my fiancee's grandpa's 95, I'll be doing that the first trouble I have with it.

we are going to do that probably at the first of the year. he just put a bunch of stuff from heath diesel on it. really woke it up. another guy at work has 5 6.2's with bad cranks but good everything else, the mechanical pump from those should bolt up to 6.5 won't it?
