Postby stock91w350 » Sat Jan 30, 2010 6:33 pm

my bother has a 01 cummins built to over 500hp and 1000ft lbs to the wheels. hi throttle posistioning sensor went bad, he bought one from a company on the internet and in the instructions to install we had to ajust the tps useing a volt meter, after it was all done his idle is going up high and low when u tap the peddel also his coolent gaughe is going up and down from cold to hot, any ideas? the weekend mechanic that helped said it was prolly his heat sensor and if so it would wanna keep putting the truck on high idle, sound rite? thank you

My brother's 02 with twins had a similar problem. He thought it was a TPS as well. When he plugged it in, it threw a bunch of codes. He replaced the VP pump and the ECM at that time. Not sure if the pump or the ECM was the actual issue though.

If you put a VE on it you wouldn't have most of those overvalved problems. ;)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I can't recall if there was a complete dead pedal feeling for him. His initial diagniosis was a TPS though, and that was definitely not the problem in the end. I think it was the ECM that actually solved his problem, but I can't say for sure.
