Help Diagnosing a P-Pump

Postby lectro_static » Fri Mar 12, 2010 2:09 pm

A buddy of mine has a 94 or 95 P-pump runs great but when he shuts it off it will idle for 3 to 10 seconds, it is getting worse so he would like to get it fixed ASAP and I really dont even know where to begin with it.

Thanks in advance

Shut off solenoid getting weak and not making an abrupt fuel shut down?

I had a 97 and the linkage was rusty so the solenoid would not push it. Took it apart and freed it up. Worked good after that.

If it won't shut off it's probably not an electrical problem. No need to replace the solenoid unless it's really crusty with rust. Problem is what Rich said, needs lube. The bore of the unit is dry, pull the plunger out, clean it good, and lube with a light oil. Should work good then.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

That's what pisses the fuel into the Funny Round Trucks. ;)
