fuel tank module

Postby DIESELCHICK » Sat Jun 02, 2007 12:30 am

We pulled the fuel tank module (mine doesn't have the fuel pump in the tank.) Does anyone know if the fuel filter and the screen filter on the bottom of the module can be eliminated? We put on the FASS fuel pump (which has a filter the fuel goes to before it gets to the pump) and the stock fuel filter the fuel goes to before it gets to the VP44. I don't see a need for the 3rd filter (and screen) in the tank. Thanks in advance for any help!!

the screen it there to stop large objects washing around in the bottom of the tank from entering and restricting the fuel line pre-filter. in todays world of filter service station dispensors and monitored underground tanks you probably will never have a problem, but it isn't enough of a restriction to justify removing it. imo.

Thanks Daryl! I was a little tired last night and left out info. the screen ripped when we took the module out to clean it. I figured since we're doing all this work might just as well get a new module. I called dodge dealer in town (only one in our town) he kept trying to tell me I needed the module with a fuel pump on it, explained mine doesn't have the pump in the tank, I think mine is a half year before they started putting pump in tank. He said the replacement module has pump on it.........so do you know where I can get a new module that doesn't have a pump connected? I would like my truck but I'm in no hurry to fix her I want to do it right I have my husbands truck to drive while mine is down.

The fass should not be pulling fuel through a stock pickup in the tank in my opinion. I would install a bigger pickup tube through the sender/module.

My buddy has a 98.5 that the fuel lines rusted thru on the sender unit. He had the same problem you do, no units w/o the pump. He sucked it up and bought the unit. Bis truck is stock, so no worrys for him. I agree with KTA, put in a bigger pickup and don't look back! 8)

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Thanks guys!!!! I talked to Vulcan Performance today about the draw straw. Then talked to my buddy (he's doing most of the work on it) I will order the draw straw on Monday (the guy I talked to was at the Indy races, told him to enjoy the race and I'd order it Monday). Thanks again!!!

new problem

Postby DIESELCHICK » Tue Jul 24, 2007 6:27 pm

We put in the Vulcan draw straw, fass pump, new fuel lines, fixed VP and new gauges all work great!!!!!!!! Now my fuel gauge is showing full ALL the time. There is no power to the fuel gauge sending unit. Something is stopping the power from making it to the sending unit. Any ideas? BTW '02 2500 Dodge Diesel. Thanks!!
