Opinions on 3/4" gun

Postby spencerdiesel » Wed Jan 17, 2018 2:47 pm

Im looking at 3/4" impact guns and was looking for yalls opinions of the current lineup.

The main ones I am considering are: IR 2145, Mac AWP075 (or proto equivalent), and Snapon mg1200.

Questions: Does anyone have experience with any of these guns? Does the mg1200 have the same hit or miss reliability as it's 1/2" and 3/8" lineup?

On Garage Journal, it seems a lot of guys are nuts about the current Mac/Proto variants and compare their output to some 1" guns. I have both the snapon mg725 and Mac awp050 and both are stout, with the slight edge to the Mac. The Proto 3/4" can be had for around $200 less than the Mac equivalent.
Ok so that wasn't really a question

I've heard nothing but great things about the IR 261, but it weighs close to twice what the above mentioned guns do, anyone want to enlighten me more about this gun?

All thoughts welcome, thanks

Don't know the model, but I have a IR and only use it on the big trucks for wheel removal. It has broken a few big boy impact sockets so it has grunt anyway. It is heavy, but its only used a couple times a year.

My fiancées cousin is taking the same program in school I did, and he's not going to use his student discount. I can get the Mac or SO for about half price.

I recently bought the battery powered milwaukee 1000ft/lb 3/4 impact. This is a must have tool in the shop so convenient compared to air.

Agree on the IR. My 231 is a tough gun.

Ive got the milwaukee 2767 1/2". Milwaukee "claims" 1400 ft lbs.

Theres no doubt its the strongest 1/2" gun I know of, both rated specs and what Ive compared it to. But then again, at 8 pounds and about 8"x 8", it should be. For those reasons, it seldom comes out of my box.

I also have the 2761 mid torque, and it gets used on everything. Its only a fraction of an inch longer than my matco 2220 3/8" gun, and is rated at the same 600 ft lbs.

Theres still something thats boring to me about battery guns though, air just does it for me ;)

I have an IR 244, it never seemed to have the ass my coworkers 244 did. I bought a Snap On MG3100 3/8 gun used, what an animal! It will tear up my 1/2 gun with no problem! I recently bought the Snap On 1/2 drive 18 volt gun from my neighbor, that's an animal too. I never take my IR out of the truck any more. It's the battery gun for almost everything, or the 3/8 if it's smaller stuff the big one can't get on.

Pete is your SO 1/2" the CT8850? Thats the gun I traded for the milwaukee 2767.

I really enjoyed using it, but reading all the problems they had I felt like it was a liability :(

The 2767 is the stoutest 1/2" (air or battery) I know of, but it doesnt do a single thing for me....

Yeah, pretty sure that's the number. I bought it used off the neighbor with a charger and 2 batteries for $250. He just gave me another battery he found last week too. I haven't had any problems, it works great! He did tell me I have to pull the nose off and lube it in there every now and again. (I think that's what he said)
Problem I saw with the Milwaukee's when I was looking is there are about 20 different torque ratings so you have watch close to get the monster gun.
