Which FSMs?

Postby cmann250 » Wed Nov 30, 2011 9:01 am

I think i'm going to break down and buy a FSM. Can i get one from Cummins or does the Chrysler one cover everything i need? I see that geno's garage has the chrysler ones, but i have heard of a cummins FSM too. Also what year should i get? I have an '89 curently, but i'm not particularly married to this truck. What mean is what year is the best? I hope some of the smaller differences between between IC'd and non-IC'd aren't that big of a deal

the 93 FSM from geno's has the best info IMO (about the whole truck), I also have quite a few cummins manuals, and the 12V one (dont have a clue what the P/N is) has the VE,P7100, and VP44 all covered, pluss all aspects of 6bt and 4bt

the differences between injection pumps are better covered in the cummins manual, expecially advance functions between pumps

The only reason to get a 93 is for the Getrag rebuild section

Otherwise I would get the year truck you have. They should explain the wiring better.

Well since i have a 47RH, all the transmission stuff wouldn't apply to me. The wiring is one of my biggest problems, so that's a good point Jon

Since we're on the topic of manuals, what's a good transmission manual when and if i need one for this 47RH?

ATSG's manual is fairly simple and straight forward. If you need it simplified a little more go to a book store and look in the automotive/transportation section. There should be a tips and tricks book on the 727/518/618(46/47rh) transmissions. I think I seen one at books a million awhile back.
