need welder

Postby txs » Sun Mar 04, 2012 1:41 pm

i need a 115 volt wire welder for sheet metal work, i always bought miller but im thinking hobart this time around, the 140 is about 350$ cheaper than miller of same size, and hobert is owned by miller i believe. input? the hobart 140 has hundreds of positive reviews on northern tools site.
93 w250 6 speed 4" exhaust, caution, work truck, she's no beauty. building 1 ton dually 4x4, dana 80, 48rh, 205 Scratch the one ton, bought frt. dually 4x4 98 12 valve with the tiny rear doors. rides so much better than the 93.

I had a Hobart 140, excellant choice. Very easy to operate and work on if needed, which mine never did.

How soon are you going to buy said welder, I might be able to get yo a smoking deal on a 115wire welder that is a little better quality than a Hobart. pm me if interested

Tom, I decided the same thing. I've been looking for a month or so. Get a Hobart 140 from Northern Tool. It's $500 and free shipping. Millers are way more money and lincolns aren't as capable in the same size/ price range.
If you look on E-Bay, they have recons for about $50 less from ToolKing. A recon "A" (hobart 140, #500500A) is supposed to be a like new unit, and a recon "B" (500500B) may have scratches and dents. I've read reviews, and Hobart and ToolKing stand behind the warranty on recon units. Warranty is 1 year on a recon, and 5-3-1 on a new one.
I'll be ordering one in a week or so.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

I have had a 120 Hobart for 20 years. Just a wire speed dial and a wire insert in the cable is the only issues. Been good. I like to run the 23 th's wire in mine and not the 30.
