oxygen regulator cleaning before rebuild

Postby ellis93 » Sun Oct 14, 2012 7:31 pm

One year ago I bought some rebuilt victor torch regulators for 125 a piece and I've used them 4 or 5 times and have been on the same bottles since the day I bought them. Today I needed to replace a bearing on one of the gains of my disc and needed to heat some bolts up and wouldn't you know it,the freakin o2 reg started whizzing air :? . Not my idea of a worth while spending of 250$

So now I've bought the parts to rebuild it along with a spare set just in case the other reg takes a dump too, cost me 56$ total. Cheaper than another reg,but also a so what hairy deal to install cleanly. There is not suppose to be any oils in there at all cause it'll go boom and my wife will collect my life insurance policy.

I've done lots of reading on this and wanted to ask if any of y'all had gone into this? I've read several post on forums that said hot water and dish soap gets the job done, others said isopropyl alcohol did as well,I'm thinking both along with latex gloves with no powder. The gloves would keep my skin oil out of the equation.

Tell me what y'all think
