HF Tire Changer

Postby bgilbert » Fri Oct 24, 2014 7:58 pm

Anyone use this Harbor Freight Tire Changer? http://www.harborfreight.com/portable-t ... 69686.html

I've got a number of tires I'd like to knock off rims to either sell steel rims or scrap them etc, then save the tires. Also I have a number of 'farm/ranch' trucks that don't need wheels balanced and would love to swap around tires without getting bent over by any of the local tire shops.

No first hand experience with that one, but I could see breaking beads with it being nearly impossible.

I've changed everything from 6.00-16s to 265/75/16s to 15.5-38s with a duck bill hammer and two tire spoons. Its not fool proof, but its hard to screw up.

I change 98% of my tires by hand with a tire hammer and pair of spoons. Not a big deal, dishwashing liquid for lube and they go on and off pretty easy.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.

Thanks Andy, I watched a couple videos on youtube about the HF unit, looks good enough to me. If I had a Northern Tool store nearby, I'd go with that one. Does Northern Tool have stores around the country? lol

Once I get the crew cab project further along I'm gonna get it.

I've had to make a new hold down, welded a nut to tighten the top pipe and the and the holder that goes through the lug hole is broken off. The bead breaker bends with ease.
