How to rewire...

How do I rewire a air compressor from 240v to 120v? The compressor is a 4 gallon emglo.

If it is capable of being wired for either voltage the motor will have a removable plate cover and will have a diagram that tells you what number leads to connect together for either voltage.

here is my dilemma. it came with a 120v plug on it, but the motor will not turn under pressure. If I disconnect the tank and let it freewheel, it turns at near normal speeds. I can stop it just by putting a finger over the outlet. My first thought was it was wired for 240v. Ideas? Oh, and it does not have a diagram that I can find.

if you can give me all the info off the motor nameplate i can get a diagram, if its a duel voltage
it will say 115/230 volt and have two amp ratings on the motor name tag.
