Homebrew HE341/HX55 compounds

'll start with a little background on the truck. Bought it in Dec 2011. 2 1/2 owners 197k.



Not long after, I cranked the pump, fuel pin, lift pump, 3800 gov spring. Valair kevlar ceramic, he341, 4" TBE, PS intercooler, 3" charge pipes, 6" all spring lift and 38" boggers.


Then added DFI 5x14s , JGS 60mm BOV and a 351VGT with a 5" hood stack



VGT was a pain in the butt . Back to he341 with spring gate and 5" TBE




Found a deal on some 38x9 michelin zxls

Head is off for ARPs and O rings since I popped the gasket a few weeks ago. So when its back together, Ill get to drive the twins.

Nice setup. Are you using any bracing on the primary?

Thanks guys. I knew looking at otherr setups online prior to the build, I had to have a side by side set up. No fun when you hide the primary under a bunch of pipes.

Definitely going to build a brace off the motor mount to attach to the hot pipe.
That 55 is a heavy pig.

Charger specs if anyone is wondering. Might be a hair off from my crappy memory so dont sue me haha.

-skip a tooth on the timing gear
-Hot pipe brace
-fab dual ram intake/turbo-ic charge pipe
-Full 5" downpipe
-Port exhaust manifold
-Port 341 wastegate
-Run new lines for JGS blow off valve. This thing has been a huge b*tch to dial in, despite all claims online(go figure). But Im determined to figure it out and not give up on my $300 lemon haha.

2014 has not been a good year so far. Popped the cummins and Toyota HG in January, so now I have 2 motors ripped apart on my kitchen table, I'll try and snag a pic.

Hey! First off that looks awesome! and secondly your thread has given me the inspiration to finish my long lost hx35/55 twin build! I have a few questions to ask about yours if you don't mind.

1. What tuning problems have you ran into? Have any boost, pyro or drive pressure #'s?

2. 3" cold/hot piping correct? What types of steel for each? and did you just weld the foot for your 55 straight to the hot pipe?

3. What did you do about oil lines/fittings?

4. How are those DFI's treating you? I got some 5x14sac from them last year, never been happier with an injector!!

Thank you sir, those are all the pics I have. No prob with questions, I just like seeing people interested in my build!

I built the setup right after I parked my truck to pull the head. Gasket popped a week prior, so its torn down getting ARPs and Orings, havent drove with the twins yet. But Im guessing with the fuel I have, it should put me around 50-60psi, spool super fast, and cool decently with some tuning. Built a spring gate for the 341 awhile back and its stupid easy to adjust.

I love the DFIs! I was kinda leery since I bought them off ebay, but for the set up I was running (overfueled-small 54mm turbo) a little AFC tuning went a long way. Didnt have to worry about eclipsing the sun from every stop light. Only a slight warm up haze. Twins should only make them better.

As far as oil lines, dont have the primary drain done yet, but already have a bung welding in the pan. Im just using 7/8 silicone oil rated hose, hate the place but source auto sells it by the foot.

The hot pipe is 3" sch 40 mild steel elbows, bought from Ferguson plumbing, locally. Flange is off ebay. I still need to break the tacks off the flange and make a divider to go in the pipe beforehand to help smooth out the transition.

I may not be a great fabricator, but having a welder pays for itself, thats for sure!

You won't hear any complaints from me.

I have a BHT3E floating around that'll end up beside my HX35 one day. My piping will be the same as yours except the primary spins backwards.

Drain- I'm just going to cut out a ~3/4" flange and tap in a big hose barb.

For what it's worth Keating does not make divider or do any sort of blending on their stuff.

Awesome thanks for the info! Helps alot, Ive got a steed speed vband manifold and was thinking i could help drive pressure with it and that would relieve my poor hy35 hopefully, oh and the manifold? BEST purchase on the truck (well one of them haha) just letting you know because you want to port yours and to me the Steed Speed mani was worth every penny!

New O-Ringed head and ARPs are in. She lives again. Have done one heat cycle and retorque so far, Still have some random stuff to make here and there. Just about to go finish the downpipe then take her for a spin. Here are some pics in the meantime.

Still have some heat cycles/retorques left. Being super OCD about it. Don't really want to do a HG again for awhile. Then Ill start tuning and get some vids.
