It was recently pointed out to me our truck's suspension is designed to work with basic hydraulic shocks. When you consider the pressure one has to apply to compress a gas-charged shock, you might recognize the 40 ~ 50 lb preload the shocks present (each) to the suspension. That throws things off.

I am NOT suggesting the gas-charged shocks (and the benefit the technology presents) are plain wrong. It's just that, like everything else, it depends on what you expect/want. ;)

I just removed my Bilsteins and replaced them with some ProComp ES3000. As such, my ride is not quite as "Stiff". There's definitely a reduction in the roar in the steering-wheel presented by a rough black-top road (rough as in larger pea-gravel adhered to the surface).
The change accomplished my goal of smoothing the ride with the added bonus of less road noise. :)

For my 1993 W250 CC, I used two EXP-321506, and two EXP-329503 (all four are standard hydraulic) as purchased from Summit @ $ 41.99 ea.

EXP-321506: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/exp-321506/overview/

At the end of the day, the truck still rides like a straight-axle /leaf-spring truck.

Nothing in stone as of yet. Considering the suggestions posted thus far, and the money potentially spent, I'd be smart to carefully consider it all. . . . . . blah, blah . . .

I have no clue right now.

I've been talking to Thuren about shocks and spring combinations. I was told that on a leaf sprung truck, "white body" shocks will ride much, much better if set up right.

Thought I had better keep an eye on this post. Good info shared by all. I always wanted to change out my dinosaur BTH3B/26 but was always too cheap. I know my GT4202 sure likes to light off quick under my stock turbo on my 3rd gen.

Anyone ever put in the effort on the Garret calculator stuff?

Also, does anyone know how to calculate pump cc to the brake specific fuel consumption?

I tried the calculator once. I think my goals were too lofty though as it didn't have any suggestions for 1200hp

I play around on it sometimes, it's amazing how much intake temps affect pressure ratio needed to get necessary air for a given output. I just use .37 bsfc.

Btw Dman, it will spit out a recommendation for 1200 hp, but peak power has to be closer to 4k rpm.

I'm pretty sure I was asking for 5k, but after more research I've figured out a gtx4718r or gtx5018r would reach the goal with air to spare. putting a gtx4088r or gtx4294r would help a lot with response over an 88mm single

Air to spare = wasted inertia/area.

That's the whole point of sizing them. :P

Air to spare meaning it should run decently cool at the desired power level, and should I feel like it more fuel can be added to make even more power. A bit of the problem with Garretts is to get a big enough turbine wheel to properly deal with exhaust flow you sometimes end up having to run quite a large compressor. Unlike the Borg chargers where you can get a huge range of compressors with the same turbine

Gonna need to add a bit more fuel after your 1200hp goal?

There's pages of setups on CompD skirting the 1k range and above, I'm sure any pick of them would suit your build just fine. The Garrets are awesome but they just don't seem to be diesel-oriented. Why pigeonhole yourself in with them?

Why not? Everyone always likes a little more

I was just using Garret's as an example since Eric brought up Garret's calculator. As nice as they'd be I'll likely just go with a pair of Borg chargers. The more I think about it the more an s400/s400 setup appeals to me even for the 5.9 (I might go to a 6.7 bottom end at some point just for the extra spooling capabilities) which will make the flexibility of an s400 secondary that much more convenient
