P pump conversion

Postby ryan10 » Sat Feb 23, 2008 10:33 pm

Hey guys, I have a line on a complete 12 valve with a p-pump for cheap. What is needed from the motor to swap to a p pump? i am assuming i would have everything. How hard is the swap? Also, would the 2nd gen head be an upgrade. I would O-ring it, and probaly run head studs. how much power could this combo handle?
thanks.

To do the swap you will need the pump, lines, injectors, pump gear, timing case. block to pump bracket and might as well get the lift pump and lines also. yea the head is an upgrade it is supposed to have better ports. depending on the pump rating 160 180 or 215 the power of a p pump really just depends on airflow. there is alot of low dollar thing that can be done to a p pump to make alot of power. the 215 is what everybody wants but i have seen some 180 pumps with 13mm p&b's make alot of power and i think pdr starts with the 160 for thier crazy fueling stoopid pump.

well, the motor is from a 96 manual, so is it a 215 pump?

It should be a 215 in 96. Why not just swap the whole motor, its easier and better.

Well the 2nd gen head has decreased swirl in the intake ports by design, it is not the same casting, and because it has less swirl it flows a bit more.
