Primary's and external gates.

Postby dvst8r » Mon Apr 14, 2008 6:56 pm

Ok, so my hx35-12 has the waste gate wired shut right now, as I took it off of a piece of equipment and the bracket that holds the wastegate on for the app put it right in my oil drain location for my app. This leads me to my next conundrum. Should I just build a bracket for the hx35-12 drill out the internal wastegate, or should I just build a log manifold, and incorporate an external gate? It would be a little more work, and a little more money to go this way, but would it be worth the effort? I think I have a 44mm gate sitting around here from another project, and I'm pretty sure I can get a 60mm gate fairly easily.

Too the second part of my wonderings. I have a Holset HT-60 that needs a rebuild, I also have a Garrett GT 4294 journal bearing, with a 1.34 exhaust housing, (T6 flange) in good shape. I want to run a tow able 500rwhp. I have a 24ft wells cargo race trailer, that I use to pull a race car a couple times a year, but mostly it is just a play truck.

if your going 500hp i would go with the gt 42, but if your going with the ht60 i know were you can get a good rebiuld kit for it cheap and its genuine.

But 500hp seems to be a gray area, what i mean is 450hp is basicly max for a 12mm head, but if you put the 14mm head in your 590hp+
so if you want relablity the go for 450hp with the hx35 and the gt42 with a set of 6x16 injectors, that would be a sweat setup

FWIW you can't practically tow at 500rwhp because the engine cooling system can't handle anywhere near that kind of heat load.

Ok let me clarify. Tow with my 500rwhp setup. No playing with the setup before I go just hook up and go and go 65mph everywhere. Including some 8% grades.
