Runaway question

Postby VEfreak » Tue Apr 15, 2008 5:17 pm

I know turning in the fuel sscrew causes run away, but what really makes it happen. What part of the pump goes hay wire that it cannot stop fueling itself. How exactly does runaway occur is what i want to know. Does anyone know what steps take place inside the pump to really make this happen?

As far as I know...

1. The threads of the fuel screw are worshipped by a cult of VE-Gnomes (or Goblins, starting in 91.5).
2. The cult is skeptically considered by most of the denizens of the VE, who spend their time putting fuel into the injectors.
3. When you give the cult too many threads, their preaching becomes too effective, and they manage to convince too many of their brethren that the end is near. This causes a rampage of fueling that lets the magic smoke out of the engine.
4. Once the magic smoke goes out of the engine, it's impossible to get back in.

What actually happens is you move the control collar to the point where the governor is no longer capable of uncovering enough of the spill port to produce the correct idle fuel quantity.

Is there a diagram or picture of that anywhere?

Because to me it means about as much as VE-Gnomes sacrificing threads to the Gods of Torque...
