3200 rpm spring ... OR something else ......

Postby burnt_servo » Tue May 20, 2008 12:29 pm

been doing a lot of playing around with the ve pump in my vw , and a thought keeps occuring to me , instead of a the 3200 rpm spring , is there any reason why the shaft and linkage out of a vw ve pump couldn't be used in a cummins ve pump ?

assuming the govener weights are the same in both pumps , then the stock vw defueling level would apply , and in stock form it is rather gradual , starting around 3800 rpm , in in full effect around 4200 - 4400 rpm .

with a bit of shiming of the 2 sets of springs that can easily be changed to around 4800 rpm , with 6000 + rpm possible .

i know the valve train on a cummins needs to be tweaked for the higher rpm's , but even the stock vw settings would be a improvment over the 3200 spring , which some people claim doesn't always start to defuel at 3200 , but sometimes much sooner .

( the ve pump i'm thinking of is off of the 1.6 idi turbo ..... other may vary )

just a thought since depending on where you look , there can be literally piles of vw parts going for next to nothing .

It's called R and D. Give it a shot and report back to us. I started a thread awhile back about this: http://www.1stgen.org/viewtopic.php?t=1729

Don't take that the wrong way! I didn't mean it was a bad idea, just that you think of them 1st, usually. ;)
