Single setup for towing; questions

Postby Danforth » Sun Jun 29, 2008 4:46 pm

Having read through all the relevant topics here, I had decided to follow KTA's advice and go with a HX40 and new era 370's. However, in my search for parts I've come across a couple of turbos I haven't found info on at this site. The first is a Garrett gt40 stage 3; (a ball bearing gt 40 garret hybrid stage 3 compressor 2.500" stage 2 16cm exaust housing). Link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... :IT&ih=003

The other is a HX40 from PDR. If I go with either of these, should I stick with the 370's or should I be looking at something bigger like DD4's? Next, does anyone know anything about a guy going by 'thedieseldude' on ebay? He claims to make injectors equivalent to 370's only without the smoke issues.

Basically, I want to do this right the first time and I don't mind spending some money to do so, but I don't have the funds to play with injectors at $500 to $700 per set. Especially with fuel prices these days.

TIA

370 are actually for the 370 hp rated marine p-pump engine and have 5 holes at .012 a piece. The spray angle on these moter are differnt then truck motors so they smoke. Any 370 your getting for a ve pump are just new stock tips with 5 holes at .012 a hole with the correct spray pattern so they don't have smoke issues. I prefere new era diesel for injectors but all of the companies are getting them made at the same place. 5x.012 will probobly be good towing injectors with a hx 40.

I'm running a PDR hx40 and new era 435s. I've actually done more towing since I put the injectors in than I had for a long time. Chuck at New Era said they were a little big for towing, but I've had over 11,000 lbs behind the truck and havn't had any trouble. There are no mountains around here, but there are some short steep grades.

I'm running 370's with a stage IV kit on my H1C and it gets toasty sometimes towing. I just put on a ATS manifold and a 3" air horn. I think EGT's will drop quite a bit due to better air flow.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
