Which one is better??

Postby Ramrod90 » Wed Feb 18, 2009 11:08 pm

Alright, my buddy just gave me two turbos: a brand spankin new HX50 and a mystery Garrett. He said it was a T24 or something. It came off a big Detroit V8 marine 2-stroke diesel supm' rather. I have heard a lot of negative about the HX50. I don't really care bout that, I got 2 free turbo's and want to know what I have to do to my motor to spool it as a single. It has a 66mm inducer, 17 or 19cm exhaust, and a T4 fitting. any help would be great because i need to upgrade from my H1C which is burning up with the injectors I'm running. Thanks.

To spool the HX50, you are going to need a fuel and air flow through the motor. The 6x.018's should be plenty of injector. The easiest way to mount the turbo to the engine would be with an ATS "Big Foot" exhaust manifold, which has a T4 style exhaust flange vs. the typical T3 flange for a 5.9 Cummins. From what I've read, an aftermarket camshaft will help a lot with spooling a big turbo. Look for Helix, Maxspool, Hamilton are aftermarket brands that seem to work well. You'll probably want to contact the manufacturers and get their recommendations. Also, you will need to o-ring the head and while you have it off for that, you should probably have it ported, which should help spool the turbo.

I have asked about the HX50 before but I just got this garrett about tow or three days ago. that is what I am most concerned about because I can't identify it's model. Here are all the umbers I have found on the housings:

M-1 A/R .95

Serial# RD0220 L

Part# NSNIH-2815-01-005-8284

I'd like to find out more about this turbo and wether or not it is ok, good, or bad as a secondary.

Thanks
