Even More Twin Questions

Postby Ramrod90 » Sun Mar 15, 2009 4:59 pm

I am debating whether I should go with a HX35/HT3B, HX40/HT3B, or S300/S480 twin set. The first two, I could buy as a complete kit. Does the third set put out higher numbers? which one spools the fastest/ puts out the highest boost without getting too hot? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

the hx35 and htb3 would be the fastest and produce about the same amount of boost as the hx40 and ht3b. the s300 and s480 would be okay spooling and produce a lot of boost, the s480 is a big turbo.

you shouldn't have any issue with etg's especially with a stock IP.

I have my pump maxed, 6x18 injectors, and an Air Dog 150 setup on the way, so I am not worried about spooling too much but I do have two questions:

1: What sort of boost #'s could I pull out of the S480 without getting too hot? Like 70 - 80 psi?

2: What should I set the w/g at on the top turbo, I was thinking ~35 - 40 psi?

The HX35 is just there for initial power, you want the gate on the small turbo to open fairly early to let all that heat energy hit the big turbo to get it spooling. The earlier you can open the gate on the small turbo the better. This obviously has to be done within reason though. Also on the small turbo if you can enlarge the wastegate hole, increase the flapper size, and get it to open fully it will really help get the large turbo spooling.

So basically, I don't even need a big primary do I? I just need something that will get the S480 to it's lighting pressure. I will need to do more research to find out what psi the 480 lights at so I can determine what I need. I may just go with a cheaper base model S300G instead of a $1500 PDR one that is not going to be used for half of it's potential. How much do non-altered 300G's go for these days. Am I on the right track? My only goal is to be able to spool the S480 around town for daily driving, street racing, and the occasional run down the track.

I am about to get a Goerend TC. I don't know who sells good valve bodies. I am just getting the pieces together while I am working on the top end. So a 57/?/14 S300g would be sufficient over the S480 then?
