Cetane is a RATING, not an actual additive. There is very little, if any, cetane in diesel fuel. It is just a standard to which to compare the flamability (or some similar such characteristic) of diesel fuel. Same goes for octane in gasoline.
That said, most that claim to add cetane or boost the rating are just blowing smoke up your tailpipe. What you want is lubricity, esp with a fuel system designed 30 years ago or more, and today's dry fuels. I am running Schaeffer's Diesel something-or-other. About $6 a can, does 4 tanks. I deifinitely notice a difference if I do a few fill ups without it. After seeing the wear on my cam plate and rollers, I'm not running it vrey long without some lube agent. 2 stroke oil hasnt worked for me (I drop a MPG every time, but it does run quieter and smoother), so this is my only option, IMO. Unless I could find some bio to run in it.
