Removing/ Replacing the Outlet Fitting on a Piston Pump

Postby Begle1 » Sat Jul 25, 2009 11:48 am

I'm running some 1/2" lines, I tried to take off the 13/16's outlet fitting on the piston pump to install a bigger one.

How do I get it off? I put the pump in a vice and torqued a lot on it, it didn't budge. Is the fitting just torqued at a holy hell load or do I need to do something first?

I just went through this myself. It's just that tight, no secret other than a lot of torque. I removed my outlet fitting with intentions of welding on an A/N fitting. I found after removing it, that there is a check valve that is "sort of" part of that fitting. I didn't want to wreck the valve with heat, so I decided to remove the check valve. I put the fitting in a vice, used a flat faced punch, and tapped the valve out of the fitting. I also drilled the flow holes in the check valve to increase its flow.
Anyway... I decided to just tap the pump fitting to 3/8" pipe instead of welding it, and it worked out fine.
