With the mods in my sig, I would guess I am around 250-275 hp. Maybe a little more. TDI bug???? Been there, smoked that. :D They aren't THAT quick. Unless the one you speak of has some serious mods. On the cheap, get some gauges, pods, 60mm upgrade for the turbo, BHAF, 4 inch exhaust and crank the pump up. You will squish that bug!!

After reading fummins' comments in the welcome forum, let me rephrase a thing or 2   I am probably around 600 torque at the tires, and the TORQUE is what squishes the bugs   Fummins you are absolutely right, hp is nothing more than a calculation of torque. hp = torque multiplied by rpm divided by 5252. Nothing but a number.

my 1st 2 dyno runs had me over 800 ftlbs. on a mustang load dyno i put down 298 hp at around 2400 rpm and 808 tq at 1950 rpm. at the time i ran pod injectors and an hx-35. one key to high tq is a turbo that spools quik and conservative timing. im set at 1.65mm advance. if the turbo is laggy and doesnt light till higher rpm its tough to make good torque. my truck is super quik to 85 mph. never really went faster, but ive never lost a race in spite of wimpy dyno #,s. tows great too.

I can make 600 ft lbs of torque with a six foot long pipe on a breaker bar, does that mean that I can tow as much as a 300 HP Cummins with 600 ft lbs or go as fast as a 600 HP Ferrari with 600 ft lbs?

However, no matter how much torque I can make, try as I might I can't do the same job a three horsepower lawnmower can do.

What's important is the amount of area under the horsepower and torque curves. An engine with a large quantity of torque will tend to produce a flatter horsepower curve, with more area underneath it over a given RPM. The engine with the most area under the horsepower curve will move a given weight farther in a given amount of time.

Trying to say that one or the other is more important is just a silly waste of time. If you want something meaningful you need a dyno graph.

I didn't say one was more important, I was just trying to start a trend among diesel owners. You can't deny that torque IS kind of a diesels strong suit....

My statement was to say torque is what we love about out trucks. HP numbers can be pretty low. Stock truck makes 160 hp. Sounds pretty weak, but this is all at relatively low rpm and in a USABLE range for what these trucks were meant to do. In our case hp can mean very little, I shouldnt say it means nothing, at least for my application I focus on TORQUE :D :D When I was younger, I kept asking my dad why I could tighten lug nuts to 100 ft lbs, but could barely move the car even if the brake off. He told me to put the brake on before I killed myself and that I had 4 more lugs to tighten  Makes sense though. 100ft lbs. at that speed is a very very small fraction of a horsepower. Hopefully I will have a dyno graph soon. Begle I see you are in Phoenix. Me and a friend are trying to put together a dyno day / bbq, you gunna go? I want to check out your "fumigation" system! http://www.1stgen.org/viewtopic.php?t=5704 :D

Soot4brains, be careful with Begles fumigation system. You might get arrested on the way home for DUI. ;)

I've kind of moved back to California now. I won't change my location until I find a job, though...
