Thinkin out loud.

Postby Ezra » Wed Sep 30, 2009 12:08 pm

So I got to thinking. How plausible is it to put a P-pumped 24v in a 1stgen? I know alot of you guys probably dont approve of such an idea, but I think it would be pretty cool..Ezra

Like Jeff has said, it has been done with very good results. While we're on the subject, why would a P-Pumped 24 valve be more desirable than a "regular" P-Pumped 12 Valve? What improvements do the 24 Valves have?

i work on a fleet of busses 7 of them are 24 valves ..the in a year and a half ive had 3 heads crack u wouldent imagine the way the drivers treat them ...but the old 12 valves keep on runnin... just like our dodges the bodies rust out before the motor fails, all the 24 valve busses have the bridge style rocker arms and ive seen those break also alot of high oil pressure problems with piston coolers gumming up because the drivers over heat the busses and burn the oil of course theses motors cant be compared to ours because they rack up huge mialage in a short amount of time but if i could choose i'd go with a 12 valve any day

24 valve heads flow better. I don't know where the claims to the contrary come from, but they're out there. Their valve trains are better after they're modified, supposedly, and the centrally-located injector burns more efficient. Downside is the more expensive valvetrain and greater propensity for head cracks.

Lots of guys have P-pumped 24 valves, after you modify the engine it should go into a first gen without any major problems.

bus drives are some of the stranges creatures alive most of our drivers get in there buss crank them with no glow pulgs then once they get it started its no warm up and pedal to the metal...i cringe when i hear those old girls leave the yard  but it is a testiment to engineering to see those cummins kepp goin keep blowin tose allison at45's to shreads tho :( we have one bus with a cat c7 in it and its a terd i cant even imagine how a fleet of 6.0's would be ...last week I went to save a bus on the side of the road the bus had a group of special ed kids in the back and the driver actually had to ask one of them where they were so I could go help them, I show up and the whole bus is covered in oil ... the drive ran over a 5 gallon pail of rotella t with out even noticing
