This may be a stupid question? If i have a denny t pin in>>>>>>>> will the smoke screw still have affect on the pump. What is the best position for the smoke screw. Thanks guys.

Yeah, the smoke screw will still have an effect. If you want smoke, then you turn the screw in, however, I dislike smoke, so I'd either leave it stock (mine is) or back it out.

Will you lose more power if you turn the smoke screw in too far. I understand the EGT problems. But I was just playing with the smoke screw on the pump and trying different settings and it seemed as if the truck had more power at the initial setting than it did when I turned it in 2 times. Just curious, it smoked more and that means more fuel...just seemed doggy.

Don't quote me, but I believe the smoke screw controls how much fuel you get in a low boost situation. So by turning the screw in, when you aren't making boost, it will dump fuel in, essentially putting out the fire, making the truck slower.

Someone smarter than me can give you more information though.

It depends on the injector size. With stock intercooled sticks its pretty hard to overfuel at any boost level.

If you still have the stock turbo and esp. the stock exhaust housing you will definitely notice some lag before the turbo spools. The smoke screw preloads the fuel cone lower in the bore hence more fuel at idle and above till the turbo catches up i.e. spools up, providing more air and boost which works against the diaphragm pushing the cone farther into the bore giving you more fuel, get the picture? ;)

If you think about your fuel pin and it's relationship to the smoke screw it's not that complicated. Your fuel pin has a profile that determines fueling via boost produced. As boost increases the fuel pin is pushed down by the diaphragm thereby increasing fuel to the engine. That said, the "smoke screw" preloads the diaphragm in a downward fashion thus increasing preload fuel. Basically, it advances the fuel pins curve prior to your engine demanding any fuel, which is why it makes more smoke prior to the turbo coming on. The fuel pin and the smoke screw work together, as does the star wheel, all of which act on your AFC lever. Now, if you don't run your AFC like I do, none of this matter anymore. haha.. :P

Thanks for the Heads up guys. I really appreciate the information. All the guys in this site have really helped get this truck running pretty hard for the time and money that I have invested, which isn't alot at this time. Thanks again.
