big exhaust

Postby 1dumrednek » Tue Dec 15, 2009 6:18 pm

im finally gonna put an exhaust system on this truck. ive been repeatedly told by exhaust shops that 4 inch cant be done on my truck. i know they're wrong. im just looking for some advice on how to do this.
i was thinking of coming 4 inch off the turbo and down and then going outside the skid plate with 5 inch and straight back to the stack. i know that it will be hanging below the frame but i dont think it should be a problem. i also know i dont need 5 inch but hey i like the sound 8) i was wondering too of id be better off buying the 4 inch down pipe or if i should just get the 4 inch flange and rig my own down pipe? then i wanna roll it up into a 8 inch mitre cut stack placed in line with the turbo.
think it'll work, any advice?

Rule #1- local exhaust shops dont know crap about diesels, normally. There are exceptions.

#2- It has been done by plenty of people, both here and on other boards. I once built a 4" turbo back system, but it was on a 2wd. Plans are for one in the future on my W250, as the wife wants to keep it a while.

i got a D250 with a 4" down pipe, it's tight. then runs 4'' to the bed, were it goes into 5" stacks. i got my down pipe form sourceautomotive.biz check them out. its kind of pricey. it was $209 plus $40 to ship, but its worth it to me on time saved trying to make one. they also sell parts for twin turbo set ups.

I vote make it yourself if you can weld. That way you save some money and can make it fit however you want. Don't overlook the bell housing mount. It's easy to skip if you're in a hurry, but that's what keeps it together up front.

On my other w250 I had a 4" dp that went into 5" before the cross member 4" is tight but will clear. To run 5" ya gotta take the cross member brace out and modify it or start the 5" after the cross member.
