AFC Pin and AFC foot mod

Postby JBradley500 » Mon Oct 04, 2010 7:01 am

A while ago on CF i started a thread on this so it may look familiar to some of you who look over there.
I want the full amount of travel of the afc lever, but still have the same AFC control that i have now. I am thinking about lengething the AFC pin. I have a pin gauge coming thats the same diameter as the AFC pin and the same hardness as my denny t fuel cone so i have something that wont wear out.

What i was thinking initally was to take .050" off of the afc foot and add .050" to the pin but im having a hard time thinking of how its going to work without taking the pump top off. I dont really want more low end smoke, just more top end fueling (like everyone). The less bottom end smoke the better. :P

Opinions on this anyone? I think bgilbert and kta have done things with this so i figured more of you guys hadtoo.

Bradley, you are not helping yourself by taking away, then adding more. Simply being AFCf=AFCp. Nothing happens.

Now you want more travel. Only in foot-to-the-floor situations? If so, make your own pin, where you have little to no ramp until the pin is about 1/2-2/3-3/4 (which ever) then ramp it sharply.

Mathematics my dear Watson.

AFCf-.050=AFCp+.050

Now change a few numbers and we will get somewhere. :alien:

I've seen where it's been told that the foot actually bottoms out before it is allowing full fuel. That's where this mod is supposed to help. Allowing the afc lever to fully travel forward while still going back to it's normal position. I can do the math, it's the mechanics of the pump that I'm asking about.

OH!

To do that, I would get the pump top off and make the AFC cone hole bigger. Then make a custom ramp for the new bigger cone with a MUCH deeper cut then can be achieved by a DennyT or M&H pin. Then take .050 out of the AFC foot and ADD .075 to the pin. So now you have less fuel at idle but more in the top end thanks to the deep cut cone.

Savvy?

I forgot the measurements but I took a stock control pin and ground my taper on the high side of the cone (opposite of normal) to get my low end fueling down then with a sharp ramp and grinding on the foot I was able to get more full fuel then with just a stock foot. Basically ended up with stock pre boost and more then you get out of just a pin upgrade at full travel. KTA I know mentioned a needle bearing replaced his stock pin at one time to get more travel.
