KSB/ piston mod

Postby TRENDZ » Fri Jan 14, 2011 5:50 pm

I have a few questions for you guys. I've been interested in the timing advance piston modification/ OR the m&h timing spacer kit. From what I've been able to gather, the end results are the same.
Have any of you guys modded the piston with BAD results? I have a mill and a lathe, and could do the work myself. I'm just looking for the,"dont do this" kind of response. :D
I'm also a little muddy on what the heck is going on when the ksb is working correctly on my truck. My truck is an early 91 non intercooled version. I've read the later intercooled engines have a ksb that works opposite of the early non intercooled versions. What I'm not clear on, is what works different? Will the timing modification screw up the cold start? School me!

Personally, I would try the spacer first. That way you can undo it if it doesn't work. I know most have had good success with the spaces. I am one of the very few that didn't. I also know that sometime you may need or want to untune for a particular reason. So again the spacer is useful in that respect.
The difference between the non and inter cooled versions is how they are operated. Otherwise their end function is the same. Supposedly, it should have no effect on starts hot or cold. But, sense it does increase travel at the advance end, it could when cold. It did on mine.
