Electric fuel pumps in series?

Postby Remps » Fri Feb 25, 2011 10:18 am

Could two fuel pumps be plumbed in series to double the working pressure? How about three?

Nope, they dont work that way. You can get pumps that are rated for higher pressure though. What pressure are you looking for?

Notice your in lloyd too :)

I'm thinkin 150 psi, for a dual feed setup. A tee and check valve to the return, and a case pressure gauge plumbed into the shutdown solenoid hole. It`d be a secondary fuel system, and would only activate when case pressure dropped below a set pressure under load. It probably wouldn`t be of much use without big injectors of course. I haven`t seen an electric pump that is rated for more than 100 psi though.

http://wwwd.graco.com/Distributors/DLibrary.nsf/Files/337597A/$file/337597.pdf The 12 volt one makes 400 psi, and takes 60+ amps to run it. Probably wouldn't hurt to upgrade the alternator.

Oooooohhh... I like those ones.

I'm almost to the layer of my garage that has my ISX pump mated to an air compressor. Should be installed by the end of the year.

I'm betting I should be safe with 400 psi case pressure. I plan on trying it with a simple toggle switch setup, to see how it affects fueling, and eventually set it up boost referenced somehow. Hopin they'll take a cheque.
