To stud the head or not to stud the head.

Postby GPSMatt » Wed Feb 16, 2011 3:36 pm

Its been several years but I am finally doing my f-350 cummins swap.

The main purpose of this truck is going to be towing. At first I wanted to do big power so I got a HT60 for twins but now I am realizing I need to build something more mild. My plan is different injectors and an S300. My question is for the power levels and lbs of boost that will produce would it be a good idea for me to stud the head before I put the engine in?

I would at least put a fresh gasket on it if the engine is out and torque the bolts down to 125 lb-ft.

For a towing rig, your not pushing the levels that would really need studs. Your EGT dictated your sustained power. But what's the price difference between new bolts and studs? If it's not that much, I'd do it.

Thanks guys. I am just going to leave it as is and get the truck running and everything worked out. Than I will pull and do head studs.
