Fuel Screw Question

Postby ellis93 » Wed Mar 16, 2011 4:21 am

How many turns can you make before you wash off the rubber on the FSS plunger?
I know this happens when you let off quickly and being my trucks a five speed I've gotta ask.

There is no rhyme or reason to it, but I think having the pump turned up with stock sticks makes it more likely to happen than if you had some bigger than stock injectors. The pump on mine has been maxed since the 1st month I had it/ 20k miles ago and even though the pump itslef is tired the FSS still works normal. But I have had bigger injectors in it for almost all this time. The reasoning goes is that the stock sized injectors create more load/restriction on the pump and that is what tends to do it.
It`s not about how hard ya hit...it`s about how hard ya can GET hit and keep movin forward.

You should be fine with 1 turn past the lock collar. Maybe try a half turn first and see how you like it. Hardest part is readjusting the idle afterwards. I'd WD40 that idle screw before you even start on the fuel screw. A punch will work for knocking the locknut loose on the idle screw, and a medium sized slender handled flat screwdriver should reach both screws, with some careful maneuvering thru the injector lines.

I custom bent a wrench just for those idle screw lock nuts. With 3 of these turds it makes things a bit easier. Keep it right in the glove box in one of the trucks.
