Question about whats next on my 92'

Postby k5runner » Mon Mar 28, 2011 10:54 am

Okay so I have a 92' Dodge 1st Gen. I got it about 6 months ago, as a stock (from the original owner) 2x4 Cummins getrag extra cab long bed. So far I have done a little work to it. Here whats on it now:

-56" Front springs
-78' HP ford 60 with Chevy outers 35 inner/outer w/ spicer Locking hubs
-68" Rear springs
-Chevy steering box w/ hydro assist (that's not hooked up yet) boxed in the frame at the box
-98' Chevy 14 bolt
-4.10's Detroit F/R
-1410 U-joints all around but have a 1350 CV on the front output of the 205
-37x13.5x17's Toyo M/T's
-6" stretch on the front fenders
-Chevy 4500 with a Ford 205 twin sticked All 32spl
-SBC single disc (rated to 475 hp)
-Super HX 40
-4" Down pipe with 5" to a spintech muffler to a 6" dump over the axle
-SD inner cooler
-5x12 injectors
-DennyT fuel pin
-Advanced till it hit the head :D ~5/16"
-Stock air box with top cut off
-Pyro and boost gauges

Okay to my question. I have done nothing to the pump (other than the fuel pin) and I need to change the water pump, do the KDP, Loctite the cover bolts to the block, and the front cover seal. Also the fuel pump to front cover is now leaking. I have a gasket set for the pump and the 3200rpm spring. I have managed to find the correct part #'s for the more volume lift pump that I will order all of the parts (line, pump. bracket, etc.). I have read some of the "how-to's" but it makes it out a lot harder than it might be. I'm sure that I need to remove all the lines, but will the pump rotate when I pull it out? Should I clock the timing? I'm looking for more power, but I want it to still be reliable, not too crazy. It's my to rig. Is there anything else that I should be looking at? The boost gauge will go up to about 29-30 psi, with the hose not connected to the waist gate.

I do wheel it here and there, but I would like it to be a tow rig that can play, not a toy that can tow.

BTW right now I can pull my Blazer, my quads, fire wood and all my gear ~10,000 lbs of load, up the grapevine/cajon pass, at about 1100* at 22 psi at 58mph. (Pyro is right before the turbo).

Looks like a fun truck, I was gona say you should upgrade your rear leafs but if you wheel it then those will do (just noticed the sag with the trailer)

you say your "fuel pump to front cover" is leaking?....if its leaking out the back of the cover than its leaking 10x worse into the gearcase, the only seal thats in there is the shaft seal.

you might want to do the 2nd gen lift pump upgrade with a regulator, it will give you more consistant pressure to the lift pump (some guys can still pull their low pressure lift pumps down)

How did the 14bolt swap go? what kind of roadblocks did you hit with mounting leafspriings/ebrake cables

I forgot to add that I have loader air bags out back, that were empty (0psi) at the time of the pic. Also the rear springs are sagging a bit (~1-1.5"). That's another problem, that can get resolved later, by re-arking the springs.

As far as the leafs and E-brake, well it was a pain but got threw it. I installed new leaf spring pads and had to build little tabs to hang the cables from. It is not perfect and is too narrow (by about 2") in the rear. I'm planning on a newer 14bolt 01'+, they are wider and have factory discs. Plus my Detroit will fit right in.

Oh and its oil that's leaking not fuel, from in front of the pump.

I thought that the 2nd gen lift pumps will be too much psi for the VE.

Yes. But if you use a boost referenced regulator it wont be.
