Curious EGT question

Postby cougar » Sat Apr 30, 2011 11:33 am

We all know the results of too high an EGT, but what would be the effects of running too low of an EGT with a lot of mods on normal daily driving?

Real low cylinder temps idleing will cause cylinder wash down I've been told.

If your driving it will have plenty of heat to keep things happy. Only an idle engine will run to cold.

That is what's happening. So what I've been doing is keeping the RPM up at take off and between gear shifts.

You can let it idle when shifting, and taking off. Its only going to be to cold after 5 or 10 mins of idle time and usually only bothers then on real cold days. This time of year I would let mine idle for a week and not think twice about it. My boat idles usually 6 or more hours a day when I am fishing. The boat starts in the morning and I never shut it off till I'm done. Its got \ around 13,000 hours on it. On cold days I just bump the throttle a little when it sits. It can be tied at the dock for an hour or so.
