My PS intercooler went in fairly easy. Just a lot of cutting and pounding around the radiator to get it to fit. Intercooler almost isn't wide enough to clear the radiator. Barely fits even after hacking it all up. Second gen is supposed to fit a lot better due to its width. I don't know for sure though. Only have done the PS install.

From what I can recall the 2nd Gen coolers fit better in a Non I/C truck and the PowerStroke intercooler fits better in factory intercooled trucks. Either one will work though, so just use whichever one you can find cheaper. It is worth noting, however, you will want the PowerStroke intercooler with the aluminum tank ends, not the plastic ones as those will crack.

i have my ps ic in and it made a huge difference in exhaust temps. i have not had a load on it yet but i can already see that it is not getting nearly as hot and also cools down very quick so i do not have to let it idle down nearly as much as i used to. it looks like i did loose about 5psi boost, (does that sound about right?) i guess that is to be expected. and it does not show as much boost just cruising as it did before. i can see where it would be tight fitting around the stock radiator, but i put an aftermarket aluminum radiator in at the same time. i removed the flanges where the stock rad bolted on with my plasma cutter. i mounted mine all the way up to the top of the radiator support and used the stock ps ic mounts with some fabricated brackets. i removed the support under the hood lock as it was in the way and reinforced it with plate bent to shape and welded in to place. i also removed the safety hood catch and am going to relocate it close to the driver side headlight. it is working out great and fits very nice, like it was made to go in that spot. i need to do a little write up on the ic install and will once i get my laptop going so i can include pics.

I voted for other. It was a 1st gen intercooler. Ease of fitment is the big thing. It's the easiest and takes the less amount of cutting, welding, tearing things up to install an intercooler in a nonIC truck. You simply source a 1st gen IC, piping, boots, clamps, intake horn and you're good to go. Add an intercooled style H1C, hx35 or the like and it's even more of a bolt up job.

What are the plans for the truck? Small HP gains and a 1st Gen is fine.

Bigger turbo and lots of HP, then go PS or 2nd Gen. They are much bigger than the 1st gen and hence cool more air.

It is defenatly about what you plan to do, If you have no EGT's problems and don't plan to mod
then i would put in a 1st gen, reason #1 is there is more available from other swaps.

but if your gona crank-r-up then i feel like a P/S is a nice upgrade, but alot of guys like there 2nd
gen one, so i guess if your gone mod i would keep my eye open for a P/S (OR) a 2nd gen and whitch
ever one i found first i think i would get, because evedently they both work well.

here's mine in the grill.

hey-Hey!!!,
When I voted powerstroke, it is for the water/air one from the 400 hp 6.7...:) Then it is off to the junque yard for an intercooler radiator from a late-model Mustang GT500 Shelby...:) and ov course its water pump. this way I don't have to even move the AC condensor, let alone cover any ov it up.
cheers,
