Custom Intakes

Postby Broncman » Wed Sep 21, 2011 5:43 pm

Anybody built a custom intake plate for the 1st gen? Since I am not running a grid heater, i keep looking at the plate and elbow and thinking about a funnel shaped intake instead of the flat plate and elbow? Would it be worth it in any kind of gains such as EGT etc?

I got a milling machine, some aluminum and a welder mocking me right now...

I feel your pain!

...but I personally dont think its worth the gain, the log itself is the biggest restriction IMO, pluss you have to EFF with injector lines ect...

but who am i to talk about whats unnessesary with airflow, when I build this..

Wow, that is awesome. I was thinking about something that will just bolt on in place of the factory plate. What vehicle is that?

thanks, I knew you were takining about the plate on top of the manifold, I just dont think replacement plates are that effective from what ive herd... but who knows

thats just a spare head that I built up...it will go on the truck one day once I grow a set of jingle bells and start porting the death out of it with a die grinder

Doesn't Banks have a Twin Ram intake manifold? I don't know anything about it and it's a "2nd gen 12v" part, but it could work. I've wondered about it, but i don't even have an intercooler. I assume that the inlet on it from the intercooler is the a marginal upgrade over stock, but it would divide the air charge better. At least in theory

On edit: I looked into it and, like most of Bank's products, it's pricey. $775 There are other's out there in the $400 range. You would need I/C'd injector lines for sure

To make sure there is no hot water in the cab in the summer, I got rid of the AC so a bigger IC would fit. ;-)

Those Tubz are very nice! I had to remove my whole grid heater assembly to get my intake to clear my brake m/c. Not sure if those tubz would work then as they would be lower.

thats why I like the look of them. I've debated about removing the heater and installing tubz, but Ilike the idea of leaving it too.
