just a thought.

don't buy parts cummins makes from anybody but cummins.

i learned that the hard way. i don't know the part #, but i'm sure a little bit of searching could turn it up.

Why not?

Are they cheaper or warrantied or guaranteed genuine?

guaranteed genuine would be the key words there. broken valve springs SUCK!

check the truck pics page in my sig. there are two pics of the aftermath.

Those were PDR pieces?

Whoever sold you those has some answering to do, if you're sure that they weren't genuine Cummins.

Did that do any valve or piston damage?

i didn't say those were pdr pieces. i'm not ever going to say who sold them to me. all i'm saying is that you should buy cummins, from cummins.

on edit: i'm SURE they weren't cummins. cummins have a white stripe painted down one side.

Then there's no evidence or reason to suspect that PDR, Schieds, Haisley or any other Diesel shop that sells Cummins parts isn't really selling Cummins parts? Being enigmatic like that makes me question the basis of the advice, kind of makes me think something shady's going on that I'm missing out on...

If a Cummins part from Cummins fails like that, what kind of recourse could you expect? They wouldn't pay for pistons, would they?

What kind of damage would that cause?

I got mine from Scheid. They are Cummins parts packaged in individual Cummins packages. I would expect to get them in individual packages not in a box or lumped together in one bag. Don't trust that you are getting 60#er's just because theres a white stripe painted on them.

AND i'm not at all happy with the way the situation was handled. partly my fault, mostly theirs (in my eyes). anyway, i have no reason to go around bad mouthing a company on the internet. it's just not the way i do things.

OEM/Stock Cummins valve spring P/N ~ 3900276 Spring, Valve (12 Req) Bill provides the 60# upgrade part number below.

If that part number is the pn associated with a 1st gen Cummins truck, it is not the 60 pound spring we want to use, it's stock. The pn for the 60# spring is 3916691.

Uhhh! . . ? All of the sudden, I'm not sure what I was thinking, but you're right. That number I posted is for stock/OEM springs.
