VE break down and rebuild.

Postby ahale2772 » Thu Dec 15, 2011 5:11 am

I've done it now...

Image

I started by just pulling the top off my spare pump to do a re- seal and 354 spring, then saw what it looks like when a pump is run for 120K miles with red diesel and an owner who dosnt change his fuel filters.

the inside of this pump was stained black, so I'm going to pull it apart and try to do a home-grown rebuild.

Ive seen some rebuild articles
this is a good one... http://gnarlodious.com/Vanagon/Bosch_Pump/-Rebuild.html

I just ordered this guide....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Diesel-Injectio ... 4ab1f5cec5

looks pretty complete, hopefully it will give me a better understanding of how to put it back together... in time so it actually runs.

gona do some internal mod's while im in there, probably machine the inlet for a snap ring, and throw a 14mm H&R on it.

anyways, thought I would post all of my findings, the parts I buy, and the process of rebuilding it. its my first time really getting deep into one of them, but they are relitivly simple if you sit back and stare at it to figure out how it works

so far...

That's some good info there. Good job searching it out. I can't wait to hear if the CD's are worthwhile.

I have a VW 1.6 with a pump that runs wide open all the time that I need to get into some time soon.

Ehh, though about posting it but seems like the guy is a hard working type, not gona screw up his work. If 30 bucks can teach me the basics of safly rebuilding one, then its worth every penny.

I better hope it helps, because my truck is running like crud, cutting out BAD from 20-30psi, case pressure falls off then comes back, i dont get it

No, Mr. Ellis was right, I'm a cheap a$$!
I'm not going to worry about it until my pump pukes, by then I'll know how easy it is because Alexs' truck will be running or not. ;)
