7x10 Testing..........just that, hard evidence.

Postby RCCUMMINS89 » Thu Jul 25, 2013 10:42 am

A fellow member sent me some 7x10s......

Now for these............so far,

7x10s - came in at 51lpm

to make a comparison

Our stock I/c nozzles flow 40lpm
215 tips flow 42lpm
5x13s flow about 65lpm
5x12s flow about 55-60lpm (lots of diff. nozzle designs)
5x14s (same exact edm company) - they average 66-68lpm
6x13s flow on average exactly the same as 5x14s - 66-68lpm

Huh? I don't understand what your talking about with the backpressure thing. As far as spray angle....what were they if not the ones you thought?

As for the flow, that shows about what the chart I pm'ed you sized them at....a fuzz under a 5x12,that is as far as area
Let me find that chart

Ellis - I have edited the above to take out some confusion. Sometimes I explain things in a confusing matter.

These are an aftermarket "copy" of the Bosch 7 hole 148 degree spray angle, they have been corrected to 145 degrees. I knew exactly what these injectors were when they were sent to me. What I originally talked about above was these were not the corrected denso ones that are floating around (thank goodness)(as those I wouldn't even pretend to test with)

Also, I know what they flow........this morning I had a brain fart, and it smelled like I was thinking 7x10 and 5x14 were the same size. Makes a little more sense since you asked WTF I was thinking. Appreciated. LOL. Which is why I was so shocked on why they flowed so little. LMFAO..........brain fart.

They flow right where they should be and where I was thinking they should be in relation to their size. Which is a few lpm less than what a comparable 5 hole would flow.

Now that has been cleared up
Have you "other" plans for them.....test wise?

Yes...........seeing is how they are not a "rush" job.. My extruder will let me know on Monday if he can open them up. That is going to depend on nozzle/tip length consistency. SOME aftermarket companies don't have great tolerances. He simply refuses to set up his blocks/machine for every single injector nozzle.

Now, after that..........I will be putting them in my truck.

I will fill it up with my current injectors (keep in mind this is not a very accurate comparison due to size differences, but it's all I've got in front of me) and drive to and fro somewhere for mpg

I will them take a 50-80 (or whatever) speed/trap test

I will then take a smoke video at idle and a flat foot.

I will then swap to the 7x10s and do the above tests.

I kind of wished I had an extra set of 5 hole injectors laying around that I could match flow with.

Problem with the two sets I'm comparing against is.......the 7 holers really should get better fuel economy due to a smaller size.

The 5 holers really should make more power due to their size. HOWEVER, due to the fact that my truck is so overly fueled with these 5 holers..........that just might not be the case.

Point is, we'll see what happens and just have to go from there.

I have some 5x14's laying around, too big for what you need though i am thinking.

The only way I can do a true comparison (size/flow wise) is to use some 5x11.5 SAC nozzles and then do the appropriate extruding.

Only down side is..........I can't open them up enough to match the 7x10s. If I had them flowed "til plateau" I'd be looking at that 48-50lpm mark. Which hopefully the 7x10 will be more than that.

HOWEVER, going off memory.........I did make 414rwhp with 48lpm injectors. So in theory, even with nothing done to a 7x10 that should put me in that range.

I'll be able to tell a lot by boost/egt numbers. But then again, it's becoming an opinion and memory.
