Exhaust Manifolds

Postby CumminsPride » Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:23 pm

Where can I find an exhaust manifold that dumps the exhaust between cylinders 2 and 3 instead of 3 and 4 ? I know the 3rd gens do but it dumps straight down and they have round exhaust ports. I am trying to gain clearance for my twins. Atleast better clearance than most have. I want to maintain the stock oil return. I know I seen this manifold on a cummins 12V generator somewhere. I have called all the onan guys here and they are not to helpful.

Thanks

ran across this the other day ...... with some heavy gauge exhaust tubing , and really good welds , you might have a workable solution to build your own manifold .

Probably a bit expensive but, you could check out www.hellmannperformance.com
He makes his own manifolds.

alot of bus chassis had a 12valve and the exit was between the last two cylinders you could flip it upside down and have the exit where toy want it. and most of them are a factory two piece i have on from a 99 24v layin on my bench right now

it might be expensive (and/or a total pita) but i think a header would make the motor a lot more effecient

much more so than the 3 into 1 manifolds we are using now

correct me if i am wrong

It looks nice............Is this what you when with??

Even has potential for "6" pyros............That would sure show how well a porting job was done. ;)
Sure looks like it could hold some weight Too.

i was talkin more like a true header

not concerned with equal length tubes

but dont want em all ran into one another

use some sort of pulse box if not a std collector

that way all of the gases are pointed right into the turbo

that thing in the pic looks like it would flow worse than a ats

maybe it doesnt matter, with the turbo creating the back pressure?

Well I can build it but dang is that alot of cutting and welding. I was thinking back on this and I believe it was a 4bt posibbly that I seen this unbalanced manifold on. May be wrong though. I like the header idea though. Not too much offered other than the ATS or BD manifolds. :(

I am considering getting a 24V ats and porting the openings to fit my 12V head. There's a guy I know that did that when he went to a full race 12er from a 24V and used the same manifold. There is so much meat at the flanges that you can cut it out trouble free. I hate to spend 4Bills and go cutting it up.

A 12 or 24 valve is close to the same money. Mights well buy the right one to begin with.

Would it work to split the manifold in half and run three cylinders to two smaller turbos?

It can be done but balance would be tough. Thats why twins are compounds. Mr Ford, that CPL would be great! PToombs, I am proposing the 3rd gen one, It dumps at #5 cylinder and I could flip it but I would need some hood scoops.LOL

i think it would work fine but if you are gonna spend the money on two turbos might as well compound them. the potential for hp is greater with them compounded (least that is what i have been told)
