intercoolers

Postby burnt_servo » Sun Mar 02, 2008 11:11 am

while snooping around the recycle pile at my dads body shop , i ran across a couple intercoolers that are fixable .

the first one is marked behr , i suspect it is out of a duramax , and the only reason i mention it , is for all intents and purposes has no damage .

but i think it will be too wide for a 1st gen .

the second is out of a 2006 dodge , inside diameter of the , inlet / outlet is just over 2 1/2 inches .
the damage might take a few tack welds and a couple hours of work .

this one looks like it will fit , but i don't have a straight rad suport to compare it too yet .

anyone know the inside diameter of a powerstroke intercooler inlet / outlet ?

any thoughts / opinions guys ?

I'd take that d-max cooler off your hands if you don't need it. There's a fellow on here I think his handle is G1056 or somthing of that nature. He has a 3rd gen IC on his 89.

i have to talk to my brother about the dmax cooler , if i didn't use it , he was wanting it for some project he had in mind .

it has a gentle bend length wise ( if it was flat on the floor , the center would be around 2 1/2 inches off of the floor ) , and is full of horse hair ( more than likely the truck hit a horse ) .
no punture marks that i can see .

G1625S. The 06 I/C he put in works great. The problem is it hits the back of the grill and the valance. I think he trimmed the back of the grill, and just pushed the valance out a little. It's not hardly noticable. ;)

He finally got a grille on that beast?

I thought the Fords had a smaller inlet than that, Tim. The 2ndGen I have has about that for in and oulets. Though they may be 3.5-4" come to think of it.......

I had an 05 stock take-off intercooler I got from Banks, but I would have had to do more frame/ bumper mount mods than I was equipped to do at the time (this was before G1625S did his).

3.25 is right for the PS cooler. I think the 2nd gen cooler is 3.5 or 4 like you said, as I understood from a post a while back anyways.

a little bit missrepresented I think - the important measurment is the inside diameter not the outside and there isnt a single factory dodge light truck intercooler that i am aware of with 3" i.d. in n out - some are as little as 2.5" idwith the biggest bein 3"id - on one side

i understand where you are coming from (flow wise) but you dont size the hose that way and i would be willing to put money that my 2nd gen is larger than 3" on the id

any takers?

no, i am not going to take it apart just to prove a point

will to lose a little coin tho...

well now when i was puttin my twins together i neededa s-bend intercooler pipe, so ebayin I went and got a complete set of pipes n all the clamps n boots etc from a 2007

One end of the drivers side L shaped pipe is only 2 3/4" outside and cuz it was heavy wall plastic pipe only 2.5" inside - all the rest of the piping ends were three inch outside - which means 2 7/8" inside - measured

what do i know lol

You are leting the secret out that it also included the charge pipes for that price.
