which injector?

Postby 89silverbullet » Mon Apr 21, 2008 10:44 pm

What is the injector that will crank out the most power out of a n/i 89 cummins? Plus do I have to buy the 9mm to 7mm fitting?

i think 6x24s are te biggest rigth now, i think thats 600 to 700% bigger then stock, and you can orer 9mm injectors so you wont need a sleave

That all depends on what other mods you're wiling to do and how far you want to go. You're stock injectors can outrun your stock turbo. If you don't want to do turbo then I would stay with what you have.

And you might as well get 7mm injectors and get the sleeves if you do injectors, that way if you ever swap heads to the newer style you can still use them.

My guess would be 6x16's. 6x24's probly wouldn't even match Lucas POD's power.

How much modification does it take to support 6x24's? I think that the logic was that injectors that big are a liability until you've got tons of stuff done.

i understand but the guy never stated what other mods hes going to do
so if its just a small turbo upgrades the pods, if he pulling and needs a big set of twins then 6x16 to 6x24

Coming from the guy who's made the most horsepower with a VE and has probly done more R&D than all of us has said MANY times, he lost power when using injectors larger than 6x18, gobs of power IIRC. Said he's tried lots of combos, 6x16 up to x25's. Call up a reputable fuel injection shop and tell them you want a set of 6x24's  built for a VE truck and they'll probly laugh at you  .

I have a set of 6x16's and a dual feed set of 6x18's and can't really tell much if any difference between the two when used in the truck back to back. Maybe about 2psi boost gain with the 6x18's. Just because something is 10,000 times bigger than the other, sure don't mean it's gonna make power in a VE PUMP.

My suggestion for someone wanting big power be it with a 12mm or 14mm VE, 6x16 dual feed EDM's. Although the dual feed ain't totally necessary, just will make the 14mm ve not have to work as hard. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

i know he said that he lost hp and it makes sences, but again this guy didnt spesify what he wants to do, how do you know he doesnt want to drop 10g's on a good set of twins maby even triplets for pulling or somthing, and a fully biult pump
in silverbullets first post he asked what is the biggest set of injectors made for a 89 and i told him

and no they dont laugh at you the just ask for your credit card

I am sure 6x.024's will make good power too, they will just take about a 400hp shot of nitrous. When it comes to turbos bigger isn't necessarily better either. A set of HX60/ HX82 twins and 6x.024 still wont make big power, not without a big shot of NOS.

Joel, you need to step back and re-read what the guy said. He did not ask what the biggest set of injectors for the 89' are.

In fact, I'll quote him, "What is the injector that will crank out the most power out of a n/i 89 cummins?"

I know you love your Cummins power and your trying to help, but somehow you set off my irritation, factor 15. Not that it matters to you or anybody else, but I have to say it or my head will explode...

It is a mute point, the question is semi-loaded, the variables are many. I think 89silverbullet needs to set a goal and build a parts list that will work, not just buy the biggest fricken injectors known to man.

I actually think your stock injectors are pretty good. I had 2 or 3 sets of DonM's EDMs in my 91, and while they did add some power, they ALL took away MPGs. Added smoke, too.

The stockers will outrun your stock turbo and clutch with lots more left in the pump.
