Posi/Locker for a Dana 70?

Postby JQmile » Sat May 03, 2008 7:10 pm

Anybody know of a cheap posi/locker that I can use for the 3.07 rear in project rust bucket? My boss won't let me do a Lincoln Locker :D I have to "do it right."......

So welding it is out of the question?

Lincoln locker = welding the spider gears

Aussie's are pretty popular with the cheap locker crowd. What about a spool?

I have a lock-right, which is a cheap locker. It sucks to drive it around in adverse conditions

Lock rights, Aussies, and EZ Lockers are all pretty cheap and handle like a full Detroit. I've put in all 3 and would suggest going with whichever you can get cheapest. Make sure you get a new hardened pin to go with it. I really don't like wleded rears.

Keep in mind you're eventually gonna be making some HP, so dont go 'cheap' now. It will cost you much more in the end.

Personally I'd trust a Lock right before I'd trust a welded set of spider gears. I've seen them hold up to 40" tires hold up to them with final drive ratios of 60 to 1 and 300 horsepower on the rocks.

Don't forget your 3.07 rear carrier is unique and I don't know of anything else that will work besides a PowerTrax. They're awesome units

http://www.powertrax.com/powertrax/noslip.html

Guy on DTR just put a powertrax in his 3.07 Dana 70, in his drag truck. Sent me a PM and said he LOVES IT.

With a welded rear, you get caught in the rain one time. We'll see a thread or an article in DP mag that says "Well I slid out and wrecked my truck...."

Naw crossy, a stock 3.54 carrier will work too. :D As long as you have the correct spline count.
